Retail Details

Hello everyone! My name is Chloé Douglas and I am thrilled to be a part of Rena’s new blog contributor family. A wee bit about me: I am a designer living in Vancouver and recently wrapped up several years on the small Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games design team. I was lucky enough to work on some amazing lead projects including medals, uniforms, merchandise, the design of the 20,000 sq. ft. retail “superstore” and the overall look of the Games as a whole. I now work for a variety of clients focused on fusing handmade detail with technology. Is there anything better than having a computer surrounded by paper cuttings? I am also admittedly obsessed with color and I created a blog devoted to the topic called plenty of colour. Last but not least, I spend a good chunk of my day dreaming about opening a shop. Thank goodness I know Rena so that dream can eventually become reality!

Every second Wednesday, I will be posting noticed design trends and inspiration. In particular, I hope to bring a color focus to my posts as I feel it is a vital part of retail that can be overlooked. Did you know that color not only creates an 80% increase in brand recognition but it makes up 85% of the reason why shoppers buy a particular product? 85%!! Branding, packaging, storefronts, signage, merchandising, window displays, price tags, clothing labels, etsy props — the details of retail are such an important and inspiring topic and I can’t wait to explore them with all of you.

For now, I leave you with a random smattering of retail details full of great design and color. Please give me a shout in the comments section if there is anything in particular you would like to see posted about. Until next Wednesday, I am off to the shops to do some research… – Chloé
